Zonealarm Internet Security Suite 2009

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Fat, Slow, and Bothersome
If you like security software that slows your system to a crawl and constantly nags you with pop-up windows, requiring you to make decisions to either permit or deny access to system and network resources, Zone Alarm is the product for you. For the rest of us, who have been able to retain a bit of sanity, steer away from that security suite. Try Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. It’s remarkably fast and reliably handles security tasks without hassling the user.

1 Star Don’t deal with this vendor!
don’t deal with this vendor - bluefish228

They are unprofressional, don’t return products and charge fees and claim products are sent back in damaged condition! They won’t even cooperate with any postal insurasnce claims on product!

REAL CROOKS!!!!!

5 Stars A Robust, Complete, and Versitile Security Platform.
I’ve been using Zone Alarm products since 2003, and my experience has generally been good.

This software may not be for everyone. While it is very versatile, there is a significant learning curve for many of the functions. However, this doesn’t need to be a problem for anyone, since it DOES have auto-settings in the more complicated areas.

One of the things I like best is the availability of customizing the internet access and cross program access of individual programs, as well as being able to customize the security and what is allowed on individual websites. I originally got the Zone Alarm software when my computer at work was hacked… with someone I traced to the Netherlands hijacking it as a download server for pirated movies. The company I worked in at the time hadn’t secured their servers.

When it comes to website privacy, there is no better application. This is totally customizable as to what types of cookies you wish to allow, and whether you want to allow the website to use mobile code, ads, popups, Java, scripts, and more. You can filter out web bugs and private headers. You can even set cookie expiration.

Some people complain about getting popups from this platform all the time, but this is quite easily remedied. All you need to do is set your defaults to manage your security for you and turn off the advisories. If you encounter something where you want a different level of security, you can always go in and tweak that individual item.

My only gripe is that the virus monitor and scanning functions are rather CPU intensive. For this reason, you will want to schedule your virus scans for a time when you are not using your computer. You can tweak your settings to reduce CPU usage, but as I tend to be rather paranoid, I direct my computer’s resources to lean toward the safety side.

All in all, I would recommend this for anyone. It’s worth taking the time to go through the learning curve that goes with it. I’ve used Microsoft’s built in security, Norton, McAfee, and Avenger security in the past, and none of them come even close to the versatility and customization of Zone Alarm. Moreover, the built in virus protection, Kaspersky, is among the highest recommended utilities.

1 Star VERY VERY Buggy!
This product was very difficult for us to load on our computer and it has not worked well since. The Zone Alarm support is done by e-mail unless you want to pay for it and it did not help. We can’t even remove this program from our computer now. I would give this product a negative 5 star rating if I could. I totally agree with the other reviewer who rated this product with one star. Buy something else from Amazon and save yourself the hassle.

5 Stars One of the best software firewalls around today
The last user who gave this a one star is talking nonsense and obviously knows little about firewalls. I’ve used ZA for years, I have a very good understanding of network security because I run a server at home with a software and hardware firewall combined. Features like ICMP Echo, which stops your PC replying to hackers who ping large numbers of IP addresses are a must. I’ve never had any security issues using this because I know how to use it. Letting a firewall do it’s own thing automatically without any configuration or understanding is always gonna cause problems no matter what software you use. I’ve never found ZA CPU intensive, I schedule scans when I’m not around, plus I have a dual core cpu and 4gb memory with Sata II hard drives, so it runs easily even when I am playing games at the same time. If you want a real resource hogger then try Norton Anti-Virus…never like it and never use it.

ZA only pops up messages until it get’s used to the programmes on your machine, all you do it tick a box and it won’t bother you…easy.

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars An excellent product with one drawback
Writing this review has been on my to-do list for a long time. That’s because this is a wonderful product, with one big drawback. I’ve been hoping either to find other drawbacks that could justify a less enthusiatic review, or a solution to that one flaw.

CorelDRAW Graphics Suite will do everything you want it to do, whether you’re creating brochures or websites or scrapbook pages. The learning curve is no steeper that it has to be for a product with this robust a range of options. The images and fonts included will come in handy over and over.

The only problem is: everyone else you work with will probably be using Adobe. You will have issues when you collaborate with others, you won’t find tutorials that work for you, you won’t be able to swap tips at the water cooler.

If that doesn’t matter to you, then this is pretty much the perfect graphics package.

5 Stars Best bang for your buck in the graphics arena
The CorelDraw graphics suite is, IMO, the best bang you’re going to get for your buck out there in terms of graphics applications.

Not only do you get a top-notch vector editor and raster (bitmap) editor, you also get over 1000 fonts, tens of thousands of pieces of clipart, a good screen capture app and a font manager. If you’ve ever had to purchase fonts, you know that a good font costs about $20 to $30 for a single face (i.e., normal, bold, italic, bold italic - those are all *individual* faces). The cost of this suite alone is cheaper than if you were to buy just the fonts!

I have been using Draw and Photopaint since version 7. I use them for web design, print, screen printing, engraving; and while, yes, I do have the Adobe equivalents of these applications, I get far more done (and far faster) with the Corel products.

Let’s be honest here. You will have fanboys/girls spouting praises and vilifications for either the Corel or Adobe products. I think both suites are good, but for MY workflow and mindset, the Corel products are better. Don’t take my word for it. You would be doing yourself a disservice if you do not download the trial versions of both the Corel and Adobe packages and find out which one is more intuitive/logical/friendly to *you*. For newcomers into the graphics arena, vector and raster apps can be daunting to wrap your brain around. Regardless of your purchase choice, there will be a learning curve - that’s why trying the trial versions of the apps are really a necessity.

If overall price is your deciding factor (and these days I think that’s an important factor for all of us), then the CDGS should be your choice. The price for this suite is still less than Illustrator or Photoshop and that’s why I say it’s the best bang for your graphic buck.

4 Stars Superb illustration for website graphics and much more!
I’ve been using CorelDraw since I discovered its version 12 (I owned Illustrator 10 at the time). I’m still puzzled that so-called pros look down at CorelDraw. It is simply the most intuitive of the illustrating heavyweights, and the price is a bonus!

I (web programmer and designer, businessman, no fax machine) typically design a website like this: manually sketch the idea, mock it up in Xara Xtreme (because it’s even more intuitive than CorelDraw, but with less depth of features), and then make the final graphic composition in CorelDraw. Mostly I prefer vector-based programs for their ability to easily and quickly move/copy/enhance selected items/layers etc during the mockup process.

Compared to mastering Illustrator’s learning curve (and I’m speaking from a well-studied programmer’s point of view), using CorelDraw is an absolute no-brainer.

I needed to find flow in the production process, and I just didn’t find that with Illustrator — I was wasting too much time studying how to get a result. Basic Example: try building a simple 3 color gradient swatch at say, 20 degrees (or whatever looks good to you) with Illustrator and then build that same swatch with CorelDraw (or Xara) and you’ll be amazed at the time comparison. Newbies like adding drop shadows and glows to objects. Compare those between CorelDraw and Illustrator.

It shouldn’t be unreasonable for someone in web design to extrapolate the time savings from these simple examples. Both CorelDraw and Illustrator can produce enormously complex illustrations, but getting there will cost you much, much more time and money with Illustrator. Some might argue that pre-press needs require Illustrator, but I’d recommend checking with your printer(s) to see what files they require first — especially if you’ll be working on a lot of pre-press.

I don’t use CorelDraw regularly for pre-press because I have so few pre-press needs. But I have used it for building mockups of 4 color glossy flyers, then struggled with the laborious task of transporting them into Illustrator because the printer the client was using specifically requested Illustrator files — and it wasn’t easy switching printers, or I would have.

Conclusion: CorelDraw works. It’s fast. It’s intuitive, and I’ve been using it for several years instead of Illustrator.

5 Stars An amateur’s perspective
I’m no artist. I want to be. But, I’m not. I do, however, have a need to create and customize graphics, especially for websites now.

So, I picked up a copy of CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4.

I’ve used Adobe Photoshop in the past, and although I know it is the industry leader among graphics software, I find it difficult for a novice like myself to learn.

When I call myself a novice, it is strictly in the realm of computer artistry. I’m very adept technically, and work in the IT industry as a senior systems engineer. I know software.

I figured that with the tutorials and help system in the CorelDRAW software, I should be able to easily learn what I needed to know. Corel didn’t disappoint me.

Not only are the commands a bit more intuitive than those in Adobe Photoshop, but the help system has quickly answered all of my questions so far regarding how to do anything I’ve needed. Watching the video tutorials has helped teach me graphics concepts that may never have occurred to me to explore on my own.

The tools in this suite have aided me in creating custom banners, graphics, and editing pictures. I’ve found the process to be easy and fun.

The program is a bit slow to open, even on a PC with a 3 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM. Once open, however, it responds very well. The slowness to launch seems to be standard with such programs, however, so I am not sure it is really a fault with the software or if it is simply the nature of the beast.

There you have it - an amateur’s perspective. I’m not knowledgeable enough with graphics to review every little nuance, but for those of you who hope to be able to muddle your way through graphics creation, as I hoped, you will find this a useful and informative tool.

5 Stars An unprecedented combination of graphics design power and usability
I have to admit that I’ve bad-mouthed Corel more than once in my life, especially back before my employer saw the light and dumped WordPerfect Suite for Microsoft Office, but I have nothing but praise for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4. Not only is this an impressive, powerful suite of graphics design tools, Corel doesn’t throw you under the bus as soon as you install the software. If you’re like me and don’t have a single artistic bone in your body (I can’t draw a straight line with a ruler), you would expect a fancy-pants software package like this to leave you dumbfounded from the start, with no clue on how to get started. Much to their credit, Corel throws you lifelines as soon as you jump in the pool and makes a diverse set of rescue resources near at hand for you at all times. I’m not saying you’ll be a graphics design guru after a couple of hours - this is a really advanced, powerful set of programs here - but you would have a hard time finding a piece of software with more impressive built-in support. The first of several excellent video tutorials is available on the Welcome screen, and you can choose to have a built-in docket of usage tips available for every function you choose. Users of previous versions of the software will have no problem recognizing the changes this upgrade brings with it, as you can choose to have every single change and addition from your previous version highlighted on the screen. That doesn’t sound like much, but it is a big help. You also have What’s New and Learning Tools readily available to you from the Welcome screen as well as from inside each of the featured programs. Of course, you also have a complete help file available but you won’t need to resort to using that very often.

As I’m sure you can tell by the price, you don’t buy this program if you just want to take the redeye out of your vacation photos or create a cute little Christmas card to send to friends. You can certainly do those things with this, but Corel Photo-Paint X4, impressive as it is, is overshadowed by the primary CorelDRAW application. (If all you want is a powerful photo editor, I would still recommend Fireworks - my favorite - or Photoshop.) I would like to have seen a few more built-in templates included, but CorelDRAW actually succeeds in making graphics design possible for even artistically inept folks like me. This is one powerful program which actual graphics professionals should take to like fish to water. Professionals may be the primary target audience for this software package, but Corel does a great job of making these powerful tools available and actually useable by anyone.

I also have to mention several additional software applications and features included in this suite deal. Corel PowerTRACE X4 is of enormous help in turning traced bitmaps into images you can convert into editable vector images. Corel CAPTURE X4, as you might guess, is a powerful screen capture utility. The Bitstream Font Navigator is a comprehensive font manager that even helps you identity scanned fonts from an outside source. You even get a Duplexing Wizard to aid you in optimizing the appearance of your document when printing two-sided copies. Vista users will also welcome the integration of this software package with the Vista operating system, as the search and preview options by themselves should be of great convenience to them.

What about file formats and the age-old question of compatibility? After all, the odds are that some if not many of your associates are working with different file formats in non-Corel software. Well, Corel has worked to make CorelDRAW Graphic Suite X4 software as compatible as possible with other users and systems. In this release, the list of additional new formats includes Word and Publisher 2007, AutoCAD DXF and AutoCAD DWG, and Adobe CS3.

I could go on writing paragraph after paragraph about this product, but I could never begin to describe all of its many impressive features. Is it the best graphics design software on the market? I don’t know, as I have no experience using any comparable graphics design programs. Even if I had, I don’t think anyone short of a professional graphics designer would be able to judge the comparative pros and cons. What I do know is that anyone who is serious about graphics design in any of its various facets would do well to give CorelDRAW Graphic Suite X4 a long and serious look.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Easy But Not Too Easy
Dreamweaver CS3 is an excellent product. It makes weaving Web pages easy but not too easy, there is a challenge and a learning curve. However, you don’t need a degree in Web Design to use Dreamweaver to create your Website.

In just a few days I created my Website and it’s very satisfying to see it come to fruition. Good luck and happy creating!

5 Stars Adobe Dreamweaver - Great Program
Have used this in an older version and in MAC format. This version has a few new enhancements still a great program and recommend it for anyone who wants to create a nice professional looking website. Recommend purchasing a book to get you up and running and to help you use this program especially if you are a first time user. I took an online course which really gave me suggestions for optimum use of this software. This works great with Fireworks, Photoshop.

5 Stars DreamWeaver CS3 does what is needed
I bought DreamWeaver CS3 to maintain a website and it does the job quickly and easily. It lets you make changes to cascading style sheets and/or make quick changes to mistyped information, VERY flexible.

5 Stars The Gold Star standard for creating web sites!
Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 is the quintessential gold standard tool for building web sites. It’s relatively easy to use, and has many wonderful features. You can do split screen between the “WYSIWYG” view and the code view, or use full screens and switch back and forth easily with the tab menu. Placing your cursor anywhere in the window also places the cursor in the corresponding spot in the other window. Although pricey for some, it’s still the all around best tool available in my opinion. Other programs strive to be like Dreamweaver, but don’t quite measure up.

5 Stars Adobe Dreamweaver CS3
The package arrived within a few days, and everything worked perfectly. No problems at all. The shipper delivered as promised.

Victory beckons - move in for the kill.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Not for me
The shape of the mouse was at odds with my hand. Felt a very uncomfortable “pressure” on the hand after 15 minutes using it. Tried to get used it, but couldn’t shake off the bad feeling. So I returned it. Took a Death Adder instead, didn’t regret it. The Death Adder has a perfect shape for me. You should definitely try this before you buy.

The driver software interface is ridiculously ugly (but that’s true for all Razr products…).

5 Stars Razer Lachesis
The razer lachesis is pleasant a reprieve from the last razer product I purchased (lycosa keyboard). The people on here either bought too nice of a mouse, or don’t know how to read the manual. I am a high end gamer, that plays games at very high resolutions and am very satisfied with my purchase. This mouse is perfect if you have the right surface to use it on. You want a hard surface, preferably a razer mousepad. I have the razer exactmat and I love this mouse. If you have that, this mouse performs beautifully. The only thing that i could see causing a problem is the fact that the mouse is a little big for some people’s hands. The mouse definetly takes some getting used to, but once you calibrate it right, and can fully utilize it, it is amazing. It is by far the best mouse i have ever owned. If you aren’t an idiot and can calibrate the mouse right and accept the learning curve of how to use it, this is the mouse for you.

Pros:

Excellent smoothness in mouse strokes

Lighting on it is second to none

Many programmable buttons

on the fly sensitivity

Very precise

Cons:

Too sensitive if you don’t have the sense to calibrate it

Price is very expensive

Don’t believe all the morons that have reviewed this mouse, look at the review of the razer lycosa that I tore up, and believe me when i say this is a fine piece of equipment. I’m not just a razer “groupie”

5 Stars Awesome Mouse!
This mouse is awesome. I bought it as a christmas gift for someone and they absolutely love it. They said it’s super fast and flawless. It was definately a great investment.

1 Star NOT a gaming mouse, unless you’re a noob.
I’m 23 and I’ve been playing games as long as I can remember and have owned many other high end mice, especially other Razers. So when a mouse has flaws, I know it.

First and foremost, the left and right click buttons are so hard to click, that no matter how good you are, the mouse moves when you click them (unless have your mouse set on 800dpi and your sensitivity on 2/10 or something else ridiculously low, in which case you should be using a $12 mouse from walmart anyways).

Try shooting something when your mouse moves involuntarily every time you click the button. Try clicking a small dropdown menu. Try clicking a particular line in a document. It’s all the same, guaranteed the pointer will jump up 1 line above what you intended to click on.

This problem can be solved by using the mouse on a surface that has zero squish, because then when you have to use all your muscle to literally mash in the buttons, the surface will not flex and cause the mouse to move. Even Razer’s own mousepad, the Destructor, with it’s cheap foam backing and ridiculous $40 price tag, squishes too much. This leaves you 2 options, an Icemat glass mousepad, which is like playing on a piece of sandpaper because of the rough sandblasted surface, or playing on your bare table, which is not a surface that this or many other mice move well on.

It’s a very comfortable mouse and looks nice, I’ll give it that. Otherwise, it has zero positives. Anyone that likes this mouse is using it on less than 1000dpi and on a very low sensitivity setting and guaranteed is not playing any real games (Halo, CounterStrike, etc).

I play on a Windows mouse speed of 10, 4000dpi, and 7 in the Razer software. My mouse moves 1/2 inch to full screen, and I have 3 friends who play on even faster speeds than I do, so I know I’m not the only one.

My original Diamondback works better than this POS, it’s slower, but at least the buttons were easy to click and it didn’t move when you clicked them.

2 Stars Horrible version of a good mouse
I like the Razor mice, the basic ones are great, but unless you want to be the most frustrated person in the world, stay clear of this mouse. Why you ask? well I bought this mouse because of the 9 buttons. I’m a gamer, and my mouse died, so I decided to splurge and buy a nice expencive mouse that would probably last me many years. The problem, as others have pointed out, is there are 2 buttons on EACH side of the mouse. this means it’s almost impossible to click one button on one side without the presure of squeezing clicking the opposite side. These constant missclicks can be overcome by a lot of practice im sure, but take it from me, unless you really need 9 buttons for whatever reason, buy a different mouse. Again, the standard razor is pretty cool.
