1 Star Do not purchase if you have Lojack on your laptop
Purchased this product due to good reviews. I had it installed on my Vista laptop for under a week and the AV locked down my network connection (”to prevent the spread of the trojan”) due to a false positive on a file used by Computrace. Tried to uninstall it and it would not let me (within Windows and via it’s own Uninstall executable). Emailed in a request for help and two days later received a automated reply to update my AV and do a full scan. Apparently they did not read my email. The Company is located in Spain, so there is no stateside phone number to call. Did some research online and have found numerous folks have had the same problem (with false positives) for the past 5 years. They apparently have not fixed the problem. I am now working on getting a refund, but do not expect much.

I am no computer expert, yet I can set up Panda and run a virus scan all by myself! It is simple to use and very efficient. I have never had a problem with Panda and have used it for several years and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a reliable program!

5 Stars Bitdefender Antivirus 2009
I have 2000xp with dialup, so it was time consuming to download the initial setup. I changed from Kaspersky because I was unable to download their renewal after 10hours. My computer performs a tad slower with this system than with Kaspersky. It was rated the best on the market, and it seems every bit as good as Kasp. A one year subscription to this antivirus is $20+ cheaper than my former antivirus.

2 Stars Fine when it works right.
I discovered that this software’s effectiveness in keeping computers “clean” was highly rated by several software review websites. That gave me a lot of reassurance that I was making the right decision when I purchased this software.

However, I have had trouble with this product working properly since I first put it on my computer. It has at times shown me errors along with a “fix” button that does not work when I click it. And if it does have a problem, you don’t get alerted with a message popping up on your screen… you have to be attentive enough to notice a change in the tiny BitDefender icon running in your task bar, such as the icon turning grey or displaying a “warning” symbol. One alarming incident for me occurred when BitDefender quit working (turned grey) without warning while I was doing online banking, and I only noticed it after I had been on my bank’s website for a while. Who knows how long I was going through my accounts without any protection.

There are live staff people on hand to help you with any problems you are having with BitDefender if you go to the website. However, you have to find the proper link to get that help first. One of the frustrating things I encountered was a website asking you to download additional software and capture information into two separate files, presumably so that the BD staff could get a better idea of what was causing any problems you might be having. However, it didn’t tell you where to send that information, nor did the staff person ask me for it when I contacted them for help. I have at this point reinstalled BD three times, and this third time perhaps might be the charm, because so far this time it’s working very nicely.

Customer service sucks; there effectively is no meaningful help if this thing stops working, so just go buy something else.

1 Star Slow down computer, Hard to uninstall
Install & setup was easy, ran ok the first day. Second day I notice my computer was very slow - loading of internet site was very slow and opening and closing programs. Had a lot of trouble trying to uninstall program, kept telling me it was installing program. After about the 3 or 4 time was able to uninstall. With Bitdefender removed, computer responsed faster. Install the free program AVG antivirus, very is running normal, no slow down.

That are alot of good reviews on Bitdefender, but I don’t know if most of the reviews was on a Windows Vista system.

3 Stars Good game, but nothing special
I bought this game to replace an older Mah Jong when I upgraded to a new computer.

The game works fine on Vista but isn’t a whole lot better then the Mahjong Tiles game that comes with Vista.

4 Stars A real seat warmer
Mahjongg Master 4 is great if you like the game, especially as an alternative to other solitaire games like Spider or Free Cell. The options for this game are many and the way it is organized is very user friendly. The thing I really like about it is that it was very easy to install on my laptop and PC and you don’t need the disk once its on your computer. The layout configurations are very challenging.

5 Stars Still A Great Game!
I always enjoyed playing this game when i was a child so i bought for my son. I have as much fun playing it as him. Still has a lot of features as the original, but also alot of improvements. Nice clean game without the violence & profanity. A must buy for any grade school kids!

5 Stars Its been years since I last played it, and it’s still the best!
The last time I played this game was around 1989 when I was in junior high, and it’s still the best game ever. My best friend and I used to play it all the time. I don’t remember if we ever beat the game, but it was always fun playing. I bought the 5th edition of this game, and just today I finally made it to Oregon! It truly is the best game ever created.

5 Stars No problems, son and his cousins love it.
I read some of the 1 star reviews - I feel sorry for them, but did not have any problems. Installed on both computers in our home, laptop and desktop running xp professional. No problems ever. It does take a long time to set up, so I do it and save it for my son who is 7. He needs a little guidance, but does it mostly himself. Lots of superfluous extras, but still good. My last experience was with the original version in sixth grade 25+ years ago on an Apple. This is MUCH improved. We really enjoy the game. If you buy a second small wagon, you can carry more. Buy oxen (6 or more for one wagon, 10 for 2) to carry the weight. Do not use the Conestoga wagon - it is too heavy regardless of what the pictures show. Do not buy any furniture or any heavy iron items. Hope you enjoy the game. Make sure you use your skill points at the very beginning, they really help.

I wish there were more history games like this. My kids love it. It is buggy. The trick is to save the file often so you don’t lose all your hard travelin’ work.

1 Star A WARNING TO ALL USERS OF MOBILE ME
IT IS VERY LIKELY YOU WILL LOSE DATA - EVEN IF YOU THINK IT HAS “IMPROVED”

It is probable that you will lose, or at the very least, lose ACCESS to, some or all of your data on MobileMe. Like everyone else, I have endured the instability of MobileMe since its launch. Yes, it has gotten more stable since launch, and yes, they’ve done an okay job of fixing some of the early issues that users have been experiencing. But over the past couple of months, I have had at least one instance a month of something not syncing correctly. One time it was calendar entries. Sometimes it’s duplicate emails. Sometimes contacts. Maybe they’ll sync from iphone to MobileMe and my laptop, but not my desktop. Or vice versa. It’s been fairly annoying to have to spot-check and babysit these syncs over the months (e.g., I input a phone number into my iPhone but never am quite sure if it’s going to end up on my computer. 95% of the time it does, but every once in a while it wouldn’t.) As annoying (and, really, inexcusable on the part of Apple) as this has been, it has never been disastrous, and always easily fixed with a quick support chat with support people (or reading support documentation online) that usually resulted in doing a forced reset of one or more computers, and then everything worked smoothly.

UNTIL LAST WEEK. I noticed my contacts weren’t updating from my iphone. MobileMe had them correctly, but my desktop and laptop did not. I had been on a trip to Europe, and had input a few new contacts while I was there, edited others, etc. When I returned home, I noticed that none of them were on my local computers. I’m going to spare the boring details — but after an entire week of troubleshooting with MobileMe support personnel, escalating it to their supervisors and members of the MobileMe engineering team, etc., I received the message that I am reprinting below, which basically states that the contact data on the iPhone and MobileMe can never be synced back to my computers, and that the only way to restore this data is to manually re-enter it. They were also kind enough to include an activation key for another year of MobileMe. Which at first I thought was a joke (”you can get a whole new year of data corruption and instability!” “Lose your data for a whole new year!”) but, sadly, is their idea of compensation for lost data, lost hours, and the irresponsible launch of a service that, more than six months after it debuted, is still mangling users’ data.

NOTE TO MICROSOFT: I hated Vista, and those “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” ads were (I’m ashamed to admit) extremely influential in getting me to switch to Apple. I’m a huge Apple fan. I love my Macbook Air so much that I practically sleep with it next to me. And my iPhone is a close second. But not once — NOT ONCE — during my time with Windows Mobile and Exchange did I ever lose a contact, experience data corruption, or experience ONE SINGLE INCIDENT where data did not syncronize. NOT ONCE. You should exploit the instability of MobileMe for all it’s worth. Have the fat schlubby PC guy out partying with his friends, while the skinny cool Mac guy is at home alone because he’s lost all the contact information on his iPhone trying to sync to MobileMe.

APPLE’S IDEA OF SUPPORT:

This is XXXX again with the MobileMe Support Staff. I have heard back from my Engineer who was working on your account and they have stated they were unable to repair the data and sync it down from MobileMe.

Unfortunately, the only way to resolve the inconsistent data error is to re-create the data manually on the computer and the reset the sync data to replace the data on MobileMe with that of the computer.

I am terribly sorry for this, I have gone ahead and issued you a MobileMe Activation Key for a 1 year free of service.

Your Activation Key is: 3Q2TCXXXXXXXXX

You may use this key to extend your current account or activate/re-activate another account.

It’s like at the end “Airplane” when the plane has crashed through all the terminals and the stewardesses are telling the departing passengers “Thanks for flying TransGlobal.” (Though if it were Apple Airlines, they’d be giving a 20% off coupon for the next flight and think that they were being generous.)

BOTTOM LINE.

Looks good, sounds good, and there’s no reason in the world (that I can think of) that it shouldn’t be reliable and stable. (For godssake, MICROSOFT can do it!) But for some reason it still is. And maybe you’ll be lucky and never have problems. But in my experience, it’s a pretty big risk, and losing important data is one of the most infuriating (and potentially devasting, depending on your backup scenarios) experiences a user can face. This is a substandard service which Apple has arrogantly marketed as reliable, and it’s a joke.

3 Stars It’s OK
It’s ok. The galleries/iPhoto/Mac/iPhone integration is hard to beat for a Mac head. But don’t be stupid: if you just need an e-mail address, this is overkill. Amazon’s price now ($70) is the most I’d pay.

5 Stars Rocky start to Mobile Me - Now Sync works great
I have two apple laptops an imac and a pc at work - this service keeps my important work files synced between all of my computers effortlessly! When mobileme was first introduced there was definitely some glitches but now it seems to work great. I rate this 5 stars because it is such a simple complete solution for synching all of my important info and the initial glitches are gone.

I order MobileMe (formerly .Mac) every year from Amazon because it is less expensive here than if I directly renew on Apple.com. I simply enter the authorization code on MobilMe and my renewal is applied on the correct date, renewing me for another year.

I purchased two of your video games through Amazon.com for Christmas presents and recently tried using them. I am very disappointed in their performance!

“Learn to Play Chess with Fritz and Chesster #1″ stops soon after the King’s son is challenged to a duel by Black Knight. The last phrase that can be heard is: “Is something going to happen here before we all fall asleep?”

“Learn to Play Chess with Fritz and Chesster #2″ doesn’t get beyond signing in. It keeps saying, no matter name I write in, “You’re not the first to bear this name, please choose another name…”

I tried removing the programs and re-installing them again and I even tried using a different laptop.

What is the problem and how can it be resolved?

3 Stars Bad Language and Poor Sportsmanship
I bought this game 3 years ago for my son (now and he loved it. I didn’t like the language- they say “stupid” quite a bit. And I didn’t like the way the characters make fun of you if you don’t do well. And I didn’t like how there are movie-type scenes that they have to watch to get to the next game. You can’t skip over these. But he loved it and it did teach him basic chess skills. However, the game ONLY works if the CD is in the computer. After about a year, the CD got scratched and stopped working. Eventually, I decided to purchase LtPC 2 (see my even lower review for that!) for my son and to purchase this game again for my daughter, age 5. She will only play 2 or 3 of the games because she finds it so upsetting the way the characters make fun of her if she doesn’t do well. My daughter is a spunky girl who has no trouble standing up for herself so it must be quite upsetting for her to not want to play the game. I’m fed up with these games. I work hard to teach my children to have good character, good sportsmanship and good communication skills. I don’t need that compromised by a poorly executed video game.

3 Stars I was satisfied
As other people said the game goes by quick, and it does. I would have liked it to be a little longer. Most of the puzzles were quikly done but there were a couple that got me stuck. I did order Dream Chronicles 2 becuase I want to see where the story goes because it is a cliffhanger! The graphics are great. I guess the only thing I was upset about was that it was too short.

Finished the entire game in about 3 hours of playing time. Not really worth it and not very challenging. Held my attention while I was playing, but was too short to want to buy the second version.

2 Stars Is that all there is??
I played a free demo of this game and about 30 minutes into gameplay –just before my free demo time was up– spent the $20 to purchase the complete version, not because I thought it was a fantastic game but because I thought it would provide me with a much prettier, more visually and mentally stimulating “rest & recharge” game than Solitaire, which is what I usually play on my laptop during work or study breaks. I thought that $20 would be a worthwhile investment for such a purpose. I also thought that the gentle puzzles and hidden-object searches that occupied my first 1/2 hour would either continue for some time, eventually becoming more difficult as they led up to the big game finish, or that the object-finding and diary-reading would serve as the “backstory/buildup” phase, after which the real adventure would begin. Actually, neither of these things happened. After downloading my full version I played Dream Chronicles for about another 15 minutes –not kidding– and then it was over. That’s it. I finished the game. No more. Of course, I can always play it again, but I’ve already figured out all the puzzles, which don’t change. I understand that the positions of the hidden objects change if you play it again, which I guess is Dream Chronicles’s version of “replay-ability”. Really? Even at $20 I feel ripped off. Fortunately my new desktop computer comes with a demo version of Dream Chronicles 2, so if I can blaze through that one in the free time, at least I can feel as though I wasted only $10 apiece. . .

1 Star WARNING MAC USERS !!!
Regardless of what the packaging says, DREAM CHRONICLES DOES NOT WORK ON OSX 10.5 INTEL POWERED MAC COMPUTERS ! It will install but will not open. I’m taking this up with the game publisher as the newest incarnation of the game plainly states that it is compatible with Intel Macs. This simply is NOT true !

3 Stars Happy with product, but…
I have been using Trend Micro Internet Security since 2006 and I have been happy with the product as long as I have not needed to contact the company. My first problem was 2 years ago when the Protect Private Information feature stopped accepting new information after 20 entries. After spending a lot of time trying to debug with their support staff and reinstalling the program twice at their direction, the 4th technician told me the feature was functioning normally. It is limited to 20 entries. The latest aggravation is that I bought Internet Security Pro for a new computer, and I was informed by email that my old subscription for the computer no longer being used would auto renew if I didn’t click a link and opt out. I clicked the link and opted out. I received an acknowledgement of the cancellation from Trend Micro. After that, I was informed repeatedly by email that my subscription would auto renew if I didn’t opt out, and I responded to each that I wanted to cancel. Eventually, they renewed my subscription and charged my card against my wishes. The website directs you to a phone number where a recording directs you to the website. They have support chat on the website which took more than 2 hours to get a reply even though it said that I was the only person in the queue. When I did get a reply on chat, I was given a website address where I could file my claim. I copied the address to an email. When I logged off the chat line, my computer locked up and had to be restarted, so I lost the website address. I have not been able to make further contact and have not received any reply to emails sent through their website. It is ironic that I am paying this company to be protected from this kind of abuse.

The trend Micro Internety Security Pro is a decent security option when compared to Norton or Mcaffe but honestly the pro features are really not worth the additional money. The only pro feature that seems really worthwhile is the ability to remotely lock your files (in case your computer is ever stolen) but otherwise the Network status and Antivirus reports are more gimicky than true pro tools

- 3 user license so you can use it on 3 computers in your home

- Good security without using excess resources

- Must purchase the virus updates after a year (AVG and others allow free antivirus updates)

3 Stars Slows down computer considerably, TMIS 09
I have been using trend micro since 2006, and so it only makes sense I bought TMIS 09 in amazon. Then I read some concerns from reviewers, and so while I waited for it to arrive I tried the trial version. Boy, tmis09 slows down my comp considerably for some reason, like it’s some sort of memory hog. I could tell my comp slows down esp when doing internet browsing (3-5sec slower).

I mean, the other security features works good (safe page indicator, antispam and antivirus), but it all comes down to internet browsing speed for me. Amazon is nice enough to refund the unopened tmis09 plus return s&h. I bought norton internet security 2009 from amazon, and this year version seems works perfectly for me.

Try the trial version before you decide to get trend micro internet security 2009 (look in trend micro website).

It has handled many attempted attacks on my computers, but I have not suffered any damage or loss of data or capability. I heartily recommend it to other computer users.
