Zonealarm Internet Security Suite 2009

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Fat, Slow, and Bothersome
If you like security software that slows your system to a crawl and constantly nags you with pop-up windows, requiring you to make decisions to either permit or deny access to system and network resources, Zone Alarm is the product for you. For the rest of us, who have been able to retain a bit of sanity, steer away from that security suite. Try Kaspersky Internet Security 2009. It’s remarkably fast and reliably handles security tasks without hassling the user.

1 Star Don’t deal with this vendor!
don’t deal with this vendor - bluefish228

bluefish228 Storefront

They are unprofressional, don’t return products and charge fees and claim products are sent back in damaged condition! They won’t even cooperate with any postal insurasnce claims on product!

REAL CROOKS!!!!!

5 Stars A Robust, Complete, and Versitile Security Platform.
I’ve been using Zone Alarm products since 2003, and my experience has generally been good.

This software may not be for everyone. While it is very versatile, there is a significant learning curve for many of the functions. However, this doesn’t need to be a problem for anyone, since it DOES have auto-settings in the more complicated areas.

One of the things I like best is the availability of customizing the internet access and cross program access of individual programs, as well as being able to customize the security and what is allowed on individual websites. I originally got the Zone Alarm software when my computer at work was hacked… with someone I traced to the Netherlands hijacking it as a download server for pirated movies. The company I worked in at the time hadn’t secured their servers.

When it comes to website privacy, there is no better application. This is totally customizable as to what types of cookies you wish to allow, and whether you want to allow the website to use mobile code, ads, popups, Java, scripts, and more. You can filter out web bugs and private headers. You can even set cookie expiration.

Some people complain about getting popups from this platform all the time, but this is quite easily remedied. All you need to do is set your defaults to manage your security for you and turn off the advisories. If you encounter something where you want a different level of security, you can always go in and tweak that individual item.

My only gripe is that the virus monitor and scanning functions are rather CPU intensive. For this reason, you will want to schedule your virus scans for a time when you are not using your computer. You can tweak your settings to reduce CPU usage, but as I tend to be rather paranoid, I direct my computer’s resources to lean toward the safety side.

All in all, I would recommend this for anyone. It’s worth taking the time to go through the learning curve that goes with it. I’ve used Microsoft’s built in security, Norton, McAfee, and Avenger security in the past, and none of them come even close to the versatility and customization of Zone Alarm. Moreover, the built in virus protection, Kaspersky, is among the highest recommended utilities.

1 Star VERY VERY Buggy!
This product was very difficult for us to load on our computer and it has not worked well since. The Zone Alarm support is done by e-mail unless you want to pay for it and it did not help. We can’t even remove this program from our computer now. I would give this product a negative 5 star rating if I could. I totally agree with the other reviewer who rated this product with one star. Buy something else from Amazon and save yourself the hassle.

5 Stars One of the best software firewalls around today
The last user who gave this a one star is talking nonsense and obviously knows little about firewalls. I’ve used ZA for years, I have a very good understanding of network security because I run a server at home with a software and hardware firewall combined. Features like ICMP Echo, which stops your PC replying to hackers who ping large numbers of IP addresses are a must. I’ve never had any security issues using this because I know how to use it. Letting a firewall do it’s own thing automatically without any configuration or understanding is always gonna cause problems no matter what software you use. I’ve never found ZA CPU intensive, I schedule scans when I’m not around, plus I have a dual core cpu and 4gb memory with Sata II hard drives, so it runs easily even when I am playing games at the same time. If you want a real resource hogger then try Norton Anti-Virus…never like it and never use it.

ZA only pops up messages until it get’s used to the programmes on your machine, all you do it tick a box and it won’t bother you…easy.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star Computer has crashed
Since I have uninstalled the free AVG computer secutity software and installed the Norton Internet security software on my computer, the computer has become infected with a virus and unusable. I am glad I did not install it on any of my other computers.

1 Star Terrible User Interface
I recently switched to this from McAffe, and I think I’ll be switching back soon

The Norton Internet Security Window is very helpful only to those who have absolutely NO IDEA how internet security works. For people who want to command the program, it merely tells them what they already know.

Norton’s UI is made up of a series of windows and icons that attempt to reach the computer illiterate. They can be turned off, but they give computer-smart users little peace of mind.

For example, the Phishing filter on internet explorer. It sits there, telling you it is “on”. So what? I have NEVER seen it do ANYTHING in my entire online experience.

It didn’t even warn me when I went to a fake site, firefox let me know and I got nothing from Norton.

Along with this, Norton is highly lacking in features. Unlike McAffe, it doesn’t have the very handy SiteAdvisor, which, through the equivilent of Website crash-testing, rigourously checks every icon and file on any given site and gives a rating of how safe that website is.

I can only reccomend this program to those who don’t know how to protect themselves and those who just go to a few sites over and over again. Quite like acting as though you had a limited account on Windows.

For those who want to explore without worry, look elsewhere.

5 Stars Great Product
I’ve been a long time user of Norton Products (10+ years) and NIS is probably the best version yet. Easy to install and easy to keep up to date are big pluses with the program. It seems to run alot smoother that previous versions of the program, I haven’t seen it “bog down” my system, like previous versions seem to have done. The newer features, like Norton Insight and the Home Network settings seem to be easier to use. It’s worth the money to keep your ssytem up to date…get it!

5 Stars norton rocks!
Norton was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in Columbia, Maryland. His mother Robin, an English teacher, died of a brain tumor in 1997; his father, Edward Sr. is an attorney and former federal prosecutor under the Carter administration who now works for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Norton Jr. is the grandson of developer James W. Rouse (also see The Rouse Company), who designed the city of Columbia, Maryland (where Norton grew up) and who also helped develop Baltimore’s Inner Harbor and Boston’s Quincy Market. He has two younger siblings; his sister Molly Norton, who attended Washington and Lee University and his brother Jim with whom he has collaborated professionally.

5 Stars best deal, best anti-virus
After I received my Norton Internet Security 2008, I installed it on my Vista computer with no problems. In fact, after fifteen minutes of activating the program, Norton e-mailed me and gave me a link to a free upgrade to the new Norton Internet Security 2009. Again it installed flawlessly. Then I installed the program on my XP computer with the same ease and with the same free upgrade. It has detected virus attacks and has recognized cookies, adware and spyware. It is a very good program at a very good price. Highly recommended.
