1 Star Too restrictive for use when you really need it
I purchased this item because I needed to wipe a disk for resale. It turns out that it cannot wipe the disk of the computer it boots from since it needs to be “installed” first. So you have to remove the hard disk and put it in a different computer where the product is installed. Also, there is no way to make a bootable CD for use in repairing problems where the system cannot boot up. So, what use is Norton Disk Doctor then if it can only be used when the disk is working?

And of course with the product activation, you must know where you need the product installed before you need it because you have only one chance to install it and it can never be uninstalled and moved to a different computer.

1 Star Lousy customer support
I’ve had to reformat my computer several times and each time I either get Norton Go Back to work, or the other diagnostics, but not both at the same time. A technician tried to help me online, but was unable. He told me someone would contact me the next day to resolve. That was months ago. It is still unresolved.

Norton does not seem to care about ensuring that its products work properly and this is one of the reasons I may be switching to a Mac for my next computer.

As a computer-literate, 10+ year veteran of using the Norton/Symantec brand, I have to call it quits after this. With a previous version of SystemWorks installed on my XP desktop, this SystemWorks upgrade required running Norton Removal Tool prior to installing–only the Removal Tool couldn’t hack it. After wasting days trying to succeed with the install, I’ve given up. I’ll find another Brand.

1 Star Bit Defender bad choice
After researching and reading good things about it I decided I would try BitDefender Internet Security for my brand new laptops. As soon as I installed it, both of the computers started crashing with the blue screen. This all stopped as soon as I removed it.

The update for my Bitdefender Intenet Security 2009 recently malfuctioned. I tried to call the customer support line. I was told told by the automated answering machine to call 1-954-928-2780. I held for several minutes until a phone rang and rang with no answer. I have attempted to contact them on thier chat but I redirected to email which has me sign in over and over. Bitdefender’s customer support will not be there for you when you require it so be cautious whn you purchase this product and you will not get any USA support.

I have a CPU and my wife has a laptop. I am very happy with the virus protection. It does not slow my computer and works great. My wife is not happy with it. Her laptop runs much slower and the virus check comes on more than once a day. She is thinking about removing Bitdefender and reinstalling her old virus program.

A great piece of software and the price is right especially if you have several computers.

In order for it to work properly you should remove all other virus, malware and firewall programs

before you install.

Microsoft Defender seemed to cause a problem, so remove it.

My computer sure runs smooth with this program. You hardly know it’s there at all.

5 Stars The Best PC Security on the market…
I have used bit defender for a year or so now, and I have used all the other top brands, and I believe BitDefender is the leader in all around PC security compared to all other brands…Norton, Kaspersky, Trendmicro etc. The only area it is weak is in backup, but that pales in comaprison to the overwhelming benefits in every other area of pc security and internet security.

Loaded Bitdefender on three computers that I have networked in my house. I can run scans and general maintenance on the other two computers via my computer. The parental controls are great.

5 Stars Product was flawed, but the service was excellent.
I have been pleased with BitDefender Security AntiVirus product for the past 2 years on both of my computers. So when it was time to renew, I continued with BitDefender AntiVirus protection. Ordering was easy at Amazon, and I received the package before scheduled date.

The product loaded just fine, until I tried to load the “registry key” provided with the package. The key came up as not valid so I was stuck with the trial key which expires in 30 days.

I contact the company right away. They responded immediately and worked with me over several days, (via email, my choice), to no avail.

They problem was sloved by issuing a new BitDefender Security download.

It works just fine.

The 2009 security package has more features than the V10 package I had last time. Well worth the money, and it covers both my computers for 2 years as well.

Service is everything, and I am happy with BitDefender’s Customer Service to boot.

The only problem I have with this software is that it will not load during startup. I have to load it manually. I believe it is essential that this type of software be loaded at startup. I am attempting to resolve the issue with the manufacturer.

Got this software right when it came out and it’s everything Consumer Reports said it was. My PC is running like new… in fact better than new. Norton was slowing the thing down terribly. It also found a slew of viruses that Norton did not find. The other features like the gaming mode and file vault make this software a bargain. Definitely worth the #1 ranking!

I purchased this product about a month ago and have been very pleased. It was easy to install and set up.It does take a long time to do a full system scan but if you set it to run in the middle of the night you’ll have no problems. I researched a lot of internet security programs before buying Bitdefender and I think it is the best for the money and Amazon beat everyone’s price.

Mine main system was working fine until Norton AV 2009 (I have not used Norton software since the 90’s.) I thought I’ll try it again for the first time. Probs. after probs., I am going to reinstall my system again MINUS Norton AV 2009 and reinstall AVV and we will see if it’s the software or the hard drive… BUT I’m thinking it Norton AV 2009 is the prob. I have another partition with Ubuntu/Linux .. Yes I know why are you using Windows XP pro? Because of 90% of all software is written for Windows. I’ve always used Norton and once again the 2009 version doesn’t disappoint. I got it at a really reasonable price, much cheaper than Walmart, Best Buy and even Symantec’s own website. My wife and I surf on alot of different websites and using Windows these days its so easy to get a virus or malware/spyware on your pc. I am happy to report that I have been using Norton since 2003 and have not had one bad incident. I highly recommend.

3 Stars Much Improved for 2009, But At Least One Fatal Flaw Rears Its Head
After years of running Norton Antivirus products, with ever increasing demands on system resources, as well as slowing down the machines these products were installed on, the completely rewritten version of Norton Internet Security 2009 has gone a very long way towards correcting years of bloatware code that was made worse with every new release.

This version installs fast, runs fast, and is almost entirely unobtrusive, with one very major exception.

This software will break your home or small business network.

In a well-documented bug first discovered in October 2008, Norton interferes with, and eventually blocks access to other machines on your home network. Norton admits there is a problem, and has been stalling customers for months with promises for a fix, yet keeps pushing the release date out further and further.

Install Norton 2009, and eventually all of the computers on your home network under My Network Places will disappear, and will eventually be blocked from access. While you can frequently manually reach your other networked machines by typing their addresses directly into an address bar, software that depends on access to your other networked machines directly (index, backup, small business collaboration tools, etc.) usually cannot work this way, and you are effectively cut off from using those applications. Worse, over time, Norton will begin periodically cutting off access to your networked machines. Suddenly file copying between machines fails, extremely long delays in accessing other computers on your network occurs, and your frustration level mounts.

Norton admits the only current solution to this problem is to completely uninstall Norton 2009 Antivirus/Internet Security products. There is no other workaround.

Worse yet, the responsiveness of the company to major software bugs has been less than acceptable. It literally takes months for even the most urgent bugs to get identified, corrected, and then put through a laborious test procedure. To add insult to injury, it then takes up to six additional weeks for the fixed code to be incorporated into their slow update release schedule and finally reach every customer.

This truly mars an otherwise promising product and makes it an unacceptable option for those dependent on networked machines, such as a home or small business network. If you are dependent on your network to access remote hard drives or collaborate in an office environment, Norton 2009 products are absolutely not acceptable for use and I strongly recommend you look elsewhere until the company finally fixes the problem.

I’m not real impressed with this program. I find you have to be online to access most of the graphics, and they just keep adding the same old graphics to the program each time. I want a lot of new stuff!

1 Star Worst Printmaster of All
I should have listened to the reviews. I’ve been using Printmaster since PM 8 came out. I always loved it and used it frequently. My two kids used previous versions for school for years and got incredible grades with it. Believe me, PM 18 needs the internet to download for a LOT of the art and projects, too many if you ask me. A real big inconvenience to Broderbund loyal customers. Shame on you Broderbund.

Out of 1,305,000 images, 92,000 are on the system, the rest you have to download. Out of 21,000 projects, 1,000 of them are on the system. This is unacceptable. I hate it.

I have used printmaster for several years and I have been very impressed with the product. Especially PM16 it works very good. But I am now using PM18 and I do not like it at all. The graphics that were in 16 are not all there and you have to access the interenet to download the graphics I am not at all happy about that. I do not understand why they took such a great product and messed it up this way. I dont know if I will ever buy another version of PM. They do not even tell you that you have to download the graphics from the interenet every time and I think that is deceptive and you can’t talk to anyone about the problems. I have removed this version and gone back to version 16. Just a waste of my money and time.

1 Star Amazingly slow
I have been using Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit version patiently for several months now. The “performance indicator” says my Windows Vista experience is a 5.6 out of a possible 5.9 — this is supposed to be some indication of how fast my hardware is. So, my hardware is top notch — brand new HP quad core Phenom 2.4 GHz processor with 8GB of RAM. As a matter of fact, all my hardware gets a 5.9/5.9 except my video card. But, as soon as I boot, I notice the OS is using 1.5GB of RAM, before I touch anything. If I leave Internet Explorer open, it has a memory leak that gets progressively worse and completely overtakes the system within a few hours. I tried to play a movie, and it struggled to decode it fast enough — playback suffered immensely.

My patience has run out. I’m reverting back to Windows XP, or at least installing a dual boot configuration, because this machine is just silly slow. I have brand new, top-of-the-line 64-bit hardware and a crazy amount of RAM; and this machine feels slow. I’m amazed at how inferior of a product this is.

I got Vista which was supposed to be compatible. If you are using Visual Studio, creating ASP.Net applications and connecting to Oracle databases you are out-of-luck. No solutions to that one.

2 Stars Got a Palm? It won’t sync
I just got off the phone with Palm — they have absolutely no products that will be compatible with this Microsoft 64 bit technology. No patches at all, either. So if you have a Palm — watch out — it will NOT work with this. Palm says Microsoft issue. You will not be able to use any Palm software at all. That means if you have a palm PDA, it will forever be stuck in the PDA and not go onto your computer at all, if you get this software.

2 Stars “Such-and-Such Program Has Stopped Working”
…and that’s all she wrote, folks.

Vista is the worst investment I ever made. I would gladly switch back to Windows XP at any time, but then my 8GB of Ram won’t be detected and the computer definitely wouldn’t run to it’s full capacity. Perhaps that’s the only appeal of Vista at this point…being able to run so much Ram that no one is actually going to need for another 4 years (and yes I’m guilty of it too). I have had nothing but problems with this OS since the day it was installed.

If you’re looking to purchase the 64-bit Windows Vista package, make sure that you don’t need your computer for anything important. I can get nothing to work on this computer at all. Everything you have probably heard about Vista’s compatibility issues is true…virtually everything I’ve tried to use so far has not worked. This includes important peripherals and necessary programs. With my previous computer dying of old age and the tremendous deal on OEM parts on NewEgg, I figured Vista was definitely the way to go. I am so badly regretting that decision now. We use my wife’s 5 year old Dell laptop as the primary computer now since my Vista desktop is basically only good for gaming and nothing else.

Here’s a list of all the things that are thus far incompatible with Vista. This is all from first-hand experience:

I had Vista professionally installed…I don’t know what I’m doing when it comes to installations like that so I wanted to have it done by someone who knows what they are doing. When I gave the person the parts and Vista, I thought he was joking when he said “I’ll see you again in about a month when you want to downgrade back to XP.” If I had only known then what I know now. In one month of owning Vista i’ve had nothing but frustration and anger. The only thing it does well is run World of Warcraft, and my wife is thrilled at the amount of space we have for her Real Arcade games.

I probably sound like I’m just whining…well, I’m one of the many who have had nothing but problems with Vista. As badly as my old computer was running before it just died, it still was compatible with everything I owned. Since I “upgraded” to Vista 64 with my new computer, I haven’t been able to print, scan, load pictures onto my computer, or do anything else that any home office NEEDS.

Don’t be an idiot like me and get Vista because you want 8 gigs of ram, which you DO NOT NEED for any logical reason. XP 64 works just as good, and you won’t have to deal with Vista’s rampant issues. Just think of Vista as the Next “Windows 2000″. Since the new Windows is launching in 2009, Vista is just another Microsoft stumbling block that’s costing us too much money and wasted time. I’m glad I bought this trash product OEM and didn’t pay full price. This is the worst OS I have ever used. Go with XP and stay away from Vista at all costs.

5 Stars WordPerfkt 11 with extras.
This is an earlier version of WordPerfect, but it does what we wanted. If you need WordPerfect this is a cheap way to go. However if you don’t need WordPerfect specifically then OpenOffice is free, is compatible with the Microsoft Office Suite and is free.

3 Stars Software purchase
The product arrived very quickly, was packaged nicely and in great shape. It was different than I expected, as it was not the original version of the Wordperfect software that I expected. However, it did include many other pieces of software that I did not expect (an added bonus). The first computer installation went fine, no problems, however the second installation on Vista was unsuccessful. I am not sure if this was the software or not. I have mixed feelings about the product, but I paid very little for the software, so I do feel that I got my money’s worth.

You can try before you buy at Corel.com. The latest version is easier to use and better. The version from stayathomedad’s we know games would not install on my computer. I guess that’s what you get for only paying $20 for the program. On top of that I agree with a fellow reviewer, I believe it has been pirated.

Corel WordPerfect Office 12 Standard [OLD VERSION]It is very old, and unable to verify using Serial # printed on insert. It’s fine to just use for fun, but I am disappointed, as it is not user friendly.
