PCmover with Selectivity Including Laplink USB 1 1 Cable

Did you get a new PC or are you planning to get one? Perhaps a notebook to partner with your desktop? Transfer or copy files from one to the other with PC Mover from LapLink. It’s utility software you simply must have. PCmover is the only migration utility that moves programs, files, and settings from your old PC to your new PC. Simply install PCmover on both your old and new computers and go! PCmover will determine which programs, files, and settings need to be moved, and when the transfer is complete, your new computer will have the personality and functionality of your old PC plus all of its own pre-installed software. Works with almost any Windows operating system, from Windows 95 to Vista. Now with PCmover’s selectivity features, you can choose which applications, folders and files to take with you when you migrate to your new PC. Most software requires you to perform two separate migrations for two separate users - not PCmover! Save time by automatically migrating all XP users and their configurations from an old PC to a new PC in a single migration No need to wait for your new PC to arrive - you can store a copy of all your files, settings, and programs on a server, external hard drive, or even CDs or DVDs, and migrate them to the new PC or new hard drive at a later date Intel-based Mac users running Apple Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop for Mac can use PCmover to transfer files, settings and applications from their old PC to their new Mac PCmover will transfer files, settings and programs from PCs with operating systems dating back from Windows 95 right up to Windows Vista Includes USB 1.1 cable

I thought that this product would handle the movement of my files and programs from my old to my new computer. I read the reviews and saw the problems with the USB 1.1 cable, but I thought that it was finally upgraded to a 2.0 cable. It wasn’t, so I used the LAN connection and the movement took FOREVER! While most programs were moved correctly, some were not and had to be reinstalled. If I had to do it over again, I would use the transfer utility included with Vista (or at least the HP version of Vista). On a positive note, when the transfer setup failed, the support was excellent.

2 Stars wrong cable
I was disappointed with the customer service dept. I had the wrong cable

for the transfer. With Vista 64bit you need the orange cord. Which was not discovered by the first two customer service reps. I had to talk to management before one was sent three day UPS. PCmover with Selectivity, Including Laplink USB 2.0 Cable

1 Star TERRIBLE! BEWARE!
What a headache and a waste of time and money! I used this product to transfer from an XP desktop to a new Vista desktop. Getting it to transfer in the first place was a frustrating, time consuming struggle, involving an online chat with tech support, who was marginally helpful at best. They resolved the issue by having me switch ends of the transfer cable, which has NO MARKINGS to indicate that it makes any difference which way it is connected. After several tries the transfer worked. 14 hours later it was done. I then started to explore the new computer to find that almost none of the transferred software worked. Those that did work, such as photoshop, were unable to open any of the associated files that were transferred with them. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling several applications to find that they would not work at all because PCMover had changed OS settings. I talked with tech support for several software apps and they could not understand why they wouldn’t work. I was advised that PCMover had corrupted the OS, and that I would need to erase and recover the hard drive. I am now in the process of doing that. Hopefully PCMover hasn’t completely trashed my new PC. With any luck I will be starting fresh tomorrow at square one where I was before I ever installed this crap software.

Save yourself a lot of time and aggravation by just manually re-installing your software and transferring your necessary files. I wish I had.

5 Stars Use As Directed: Think First!
PCMover is a great product that did exactly what it was supposed to do. It did it flawlessly, accurately and without glitches. It took me three trys to complete the migration because of “operator” error, i.e. I did not think first, and pay attention to detail.

While Laplink provides detailed instructions in the printed booklet, and on screen, they could have given a heads-up to the issues that caused my first two migration failures, but I did figure it out pretty quickly, and honestly I should have known better.

Make sure you check these two important things before you get started with your transfer: 1) On both computers, disable any power management options you have enabled, especially the “Turn Off Hard Drives” option. All your power option fields should read, “Never”. 2) Disable any programs on either computer that are set for automatic scheduled runs. I forgot about my defrag program which is scheduled to run and then shut the computer down. Sure enough, it ran and shut the computer down which terminated the PCMover migration while in progress.

Third try was the charm and everything ran flawlessly. I migrated the data (25 gigs) from an XP machine to a Vista machine and I am completely happy with the results. The migration took about eight hours and I wouldn’t think about doing this any other way. I will use PCMover in the future and give a five star recommendation (including caveats) to any who are interested or need to perform data transfer from computer to computer.

1 Star Don’t Waste Your Time or Money
I’m not a novice PC user, but this software is ridiculous! It doesn’t work, period. After hours of struggling and ‘chatting’ with a useless ‘tech expert’ (you have to schedule an appointment if you want to actually talk to a human), it still doesn’t work. The frustration was the worst part; they should pay me to use this crap!

4 Stars great and quick arrival
It was great and you are so quick in mailing out the items. I have bought a few things from you and expect to buy more because of price and speedy delivery.

5 Stars Great fun, but Mac owners beware when upgrading!
In case mac owners don’t know, if you own Mac OS X and are running Tiger or higher you will have a problem in the “Create a Sim” screen. What will happen is that when you switch through outfits, the last outfit won’t leave the screen and all them will overlap over each other making it hard to see them, the same will happen when the sims change clothes in the game and when you want to buy a pet at the pet stores.

It is not the worse thing in the world and will not crash your game, but is very annoying and should be known before anyone spends their money. I’m using Panther. Anything before Tiger is fine. JUST BE WARNED!

After buying just a few of the expansion packs, I FINALLY decided to get the Complete Collection only after buying an external hard drive. I don’t know about anyone else, but there was no way almost 4 gigs would fit on my G4 imac. Although, even on the harddrive the game does slow, but is still playable. I am often surprised that I can stay Downtown, Studio Town, etc. so long. That is a real treat.

Bad side? There is too much to do. I have yet to do anything in Magic town nor Vacation, and the idea of being able to renovate all this and add my own touch is overwhelming.

I had plenty of problems previously with my other expansions, and crashing was one of them. I don’t know why, but objects that I had before, then put them back in my game a second or third time (after needing to reinstall) made the game crash. Frequently, the sofas and paintings just would not pull into the game and when they did it crashed when I tried to save. Now, everything pulls into the game and saves with no problem.

I think that having all the expansion packs made the game more stable–for me and possibly for macs in general, I don’t know, but I know that all the packs seemed to help with the crashing.

Overall, there is little cons to owning this. One thing I will say is that Non-Unleashed fans will tire quickly of stray pets wondering around the lots and into the house.

Still, worth the money to have all 7 packs on one disc, just make sure you have the hard drive space– and spare for downloads– and you’ll be fine.

5 Stars Fun Game w/ lots to do.
This game is worth it. I buy very little games and this one of my favorites. And because of all the expansions packs there’s ALWAYS sumthing to do. definitely recommend it.

3 Stars Well, it’s not working on my MacBook…
I just got the game today, installed it, and i get a prompt that says;

The path “The Sims Complete.localized:the Sims” contains a slash (/), backslash (\), or period (.). Please remove the character from the appropriate folder’s name and try again.

Thus, i can’t even get it running. I’ve tried contacting Aspyr BUT they have a “long distance” call so I can’t call them. I’m getting no help on Forums too. I BOUGHT THIS GAME, IT SHOULD FRICKEN PLAY! I have a 3 month old macbook, brand new.

I played the game a lot on PC, and was excited to play it on a computer that could play it smoother than my old PC…but I guess I was wrong.

5 Stars Sims!
This is my favorite game — nothing like telling a bunch of people what to do instead of having everyone else telling ME what to do. ;-) My favorite Sims game is on Gamecube, but there is so much more to having this on my computer. I like the pets and the vacations. I like the ease of movement on the computer.
