2 Stars Horrible User Interface Changes
I’m sure there are some new features that make this version worthwhile. It may even be faster at some things (though I haven’t found them yet.) But Microsoft wrapped it in an inscrutable user interface that often flies in the face of logic. The “ribbon” interface is supposed to make it easier for new users to begin working, and, for all I know, it may. But for the millions of current users, it’s a nightmare.

A user interface is meant to help you be more productive but Office 2007’s interface does the exact opposite of that. Things that took two clicks before now take four. Or, even worse, some previously available tools or functions seem to be completely unavailable. This is considered progress?

I would have expected Microsoft to conduct large-scale interface usability testing before making a change this radical, or to at least offer the previous interface as a selectable option. Unfortunately, it appears that they did neither.

My suggestion? Unless you’re forced, stick with Office 2003. It’s interface is at times clunky but it’s far, far better than this.

3 Stars Microsoft Office for Small Business
I bought this because I had to for work purposes - but it also had upgraded, new and improved, versions of some other programs I use for both personal and work so I was able to eliminate some things off my hard drive and utilize just this one program. Only complaint is that I wish the price was more affordable.

5 Stars Worth Doing The Upgrade
I am glad I did the upgrade. There has been a little bit of a learning curve, but worth the time for the new features in Office 2007.

5 Stars Great Product
Great program, just have to get use to the layout. At first very awkward. If I would have waited three weeks I could have saved 80 dollars and picked it up at staples or on this site.

3 Stars Typical overblown Microsoft product

This is a typical Microsoft product loaded with stuff that 98% of people don’t want, need, or use. I prefer Word 2000 but you can’t buy it any more. I had to buy this to put on a new computer which is the only reason I bought it. Also, the Amazon price was the cheapest I found.

5 Stars X4 home & student easy to use
I’m an old wordperfect 5.1 guy. I bought X4 home & student after using Corel’s free trial program (at Corel’s website). This is a very easy program to learn and use. Easily converts and saves documents into Wordperfect 5.1 format or MS Word format or many other formats. Easy to create PDF’s or simply e-mail documents as attachments (either as wordperfect, MS word, or several other formats) Can also use wordperfect 5.1 “classic mode” if you miss the old way.

1 Star Corel selling known defective product
I purchased this product and it seemingly was registered and loaded properly. It failed completely after a short use and I attempted to reload if from the disks supplied only to be stopped at 6% configuration. When reattempted, the product declared my i.d. number invalid, a defect confirmed by Corel on its website. I waited and tried again, successfully registering the product only to reach the same problem, stopping this time at 7% of the product configuring. The product and a completely inaccessable (by telephone) Corel stink.

2 Stars another MS clone that doesn’t quite make the mark
To go completely negative on this product is to discount the feelings and thoughts of nearly everyone who has used this program since its infancy as the leading word processor available. Therein lies the trouble. Wordperfect’s best years seem to be behind them and with every new release, this office program is forced to look and operate more and more like Word, Excel and or Powerpoint. There is also a nice integrated e-mail client, but compared to Outlook it simply doesn’t measure up.

As a writer I know very well how publishers will bully writers and authors into only producing works formatted in the latest version MS Office. This is not acceptable both to the writer and to the user of Office X4.

In roughly 2000-2001, Microsoft obtained 20% of the stock value of Corel. Since that time, Corel has been battling an uphill battle trying to make WordPerfect fit into nice little Microsoft versions. The problem with that is that WordPerfect is not Microsoft. It was a completely independently designed program from the beginning. Thus, as a Microsoft clone, it fails horribly and for users of traditional versions of the software, it seems less and less like the program that they like and comfortable with.

Add the fact that publishers (not necessarily legal publishers) continually refuse to publish work outside the mainstream of MS Office programs. To top it off, WordPerfect Office X4 costs more than similar products from Microsoft. I hate to cave in like this, but if you are seeking a quality office suite that is compatible with Office 2007, buy all means buy the Microsoft Office 2007 product. It will prevent a headache and an almost certain letdown with your publishers, coworkers, editors and so on ad infinitum.

This is a beautiful product that would have been helped without all the helpless dependence on Microsoft to dictate its mandatory file formats. If you want to be completely free of MS, look into Sun’s Star Office or IBM’s Lotus series. They perform just as well or better than this and at a much better price/value. If you can get beyond the “Work in Microsoft Word mode” which I found irritating, You can be very productive with this. I highly recommend everybody to at least take a look.

3 Stars WordPerfect fast, but quirky
The WordPerfect X4 loaded fast and easily. It works great with previous wpd files. I did have a problem with one installation on a Vista machine with Office 2007. If Outlook 2007 was opened before WordPerfect was opened, when the last WP document was closed (and a blank document opens), the package would crash and close. No ptoblem if we always kept one document open, or if we opened WordPerfect first.

5 Stars Great new product
Had a hard time getting used to all the new applications but it has many great ones for the business mind.

1 Star vista 32bit vs mac osx
yes i agree that this is the cheapest way to get vista…vista has problems to the point where people are going back to xp,save yourself the hastle and buy a mac,mac os x is extremely stable and never crashes.Apple MacBook Pro MB134LL/A 15.4-inch Laptop (2.5 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD/CD SuperDrive) for the macbook pro and Apple MacBook MB466LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop (2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, Slot Loading SuperDrive) for cheap macbook

3 Stars cheapest way to get vista
This is the cheapest way to get vista that I know of. However, of course it has all the faults that microsoft is famous for. Buy a mac and make your life easier.

Not sure if the developers version installs easily on a barebones pc, but it installed without trouble on a second partition on a macbook. In that situation at least it is not worth buying the non-developers version

I give it five out of five for price, and 1 out of five because its vista, making three out of five overall.

4 Stars Works For Me !
No Problems loading or setting up. Occasional ” Stack over flow “error encountered, but has stopped as time accumulated on operating system. Runs Smoothly and suprisingly quickly on custom built 1.25 MHZAMD w/512 MB. ram, Not sure about mother board and BIOS. Fairly standard 2004 desktop. SiS 741 Host CPU Bridge , SiS 964 PCi to LPC Bridge.
